Safe First Date Venue Checklist for India

Use a simple venue checklist before you leave home, not after the pressure starts.

Use this guide for pattern recognition. It is decision support, not identity verification, not a police report, and not proof of intent. If the situation already feels unsafe, move to official reporting and emergency help instead of debating the pattern.

You don't need to be paranoid to be safe. You just need to pick the right place. The single most effective defense against dating app scams is choosing your own venue — and knowing what makes a venue safe. Here's a practical checklist that works in any Indian city.

The Safe Venue Checklist

You've been there before (or it's a known chain)

Familiarity is your best friend. A Starbucks, Chai Point, Social, or any restaurant you've personally visited eliminates the biggest risk factor. You know the prices, the vibe, and the exits.

Prices are visible online

Check Zomato or Swiggy for the menu. If the venue doesn't have listed prices, or the online menu looks suspiciously cheap compared to the ambiance, skip it. Legitimate restaurants have nothing to hide about their pricing.

It's in a busy, well-lit public area

Malls, busy market areas, and well-known commercial districts. Avoid isolated locations, basement venues with no visibility from the street, or places that require you to go through back alleys or unmarked entrances.

Google reviews are organic and consistent

Check for: more than 100 reviews, a rating between 3.5–4.5 (perfect 5.0 with few reviews is suspicious), reviews that mention specific dishes or experiences (not generic praise), and no recent reviews mentioning inflated bills or threatening staff.

You chose it, not them

This is the meta-rule that contains all others. If you're the one suggesting the venue, you've eliminated the primary mechanism of every venue-based scam. Period.

Great First Date Spots by City

You don't need a fancy place to have a great first date. In Delhi: any café in Select Citywalk or Khan Market. In Mumbai: Prithvi Café, any Marine Drive–facing spot, or a Bombay Canteen. In Bangalore: Third Wave Coffee outlets, Church Street cafés, or Cubbon Park on a weekend morning. In Hyderabad: cafés in Jubilee Hills or Banjara Hills malls, or the KBR Park area. The pattern: well-known, well-reviewed, public, and affordable. If the first date goes well, you'll have plenty of time to explore new places together later — when you actually know the person.
