What to Do If You Feel Trapped or Unsafe

If you are on a date and feel unsafe, pressured, or suspect a scam, follow these steps:

  1. 1

Stay calm and do not confront

Do not argue about the bill or accuse anyone. Keep a neutral tone and avoid escalating.

  2. 2

Excuse yourself to use the restroom

Move to a private area to make phone calls or send messages without being watched.

  3. 3

Call 112 (police) or 1930 (cybercrime)

If you feel physically threatened, call 112 immediately. For financial fraud or scam situations, call 1930.

  4. 4

    Alert a trusted contact

Text or call a friend or family member. Share your live location using WhatsApp or Google Maps.

  5. 5

    Document everything

Take photos of the bill, venue name, and any suspicious items. Screenshot conversations and save payment receipts.

  6. 6

    Pay only what is reasonable

You are not legally obligated to pay inflated bills. Pay only for what you ordered at market price. Ask for a printed menu with prices.

  7. 7

    Leave the venue safely

Walk towards a busy, well-lit area. Use a trusted cab service (Uber/Ola) rather than an unknown auto. Do not accept rides from anyone at the venue.

  8. 8

    Report the incident

File a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in and report on DateCheck to warn others.

Before You Go — Safety Tips

Always meet in a public, well-known place for the first few dates.

Share your date plan (venue, time, contact) with a trusted friend.

Google the venue and check reviews before going. Avoid unknown or very new places.

Keep your phone charged and carry a power bank.

Use your own transport — do not depend on your date for rides.

If something feels off, trust your instincts and leave.
